The Snooker League comprises Divisions of, nominally, 8 teams, each team comprising 6 players.
Each season, every team plays one home and one away match against every other team in their Division (ie in effect a "round robin"). Matches are scheduled to be played on alternate Wednesday evenings throughout the winter.
Teams are required to play their players in order of merit, each player playing a game of 2 frames against his/her opponent. A match therefore consists of a total of 12 frames, necessitating at least a 2-table venue.
One point is awarded to the team for each frame won, with an additional 1 point each in the case of a 6-6 draw or an additional 3 points to the winner (eg 11 points to 4 in the case of an 8-4 frame match score).
Teams' Divisional positions are determined by their aggregate points to date (with an appropriate tie-breaking system operating at the end of a season if necessary). At the end of a season, the top two teams of each Division are guaranteed promotion and the bottom two are liable to relegation.
